About 13th Tribe

Founded in 2019 by Rabbi Sydney Mintz, 13th Tribe is a vibrant 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating innovative, inclusive, and inspiring Jewish experiences. Our mission is to connect individuals—Jews, allies, and seekers alike—who resonate deeply with the Jewish tradition but have yet to find their community or pathway into Jewish life.

Our Vision

We envision a Jewish world enriched by creativity, humor, spirituality, and open-hearted community engagement, where all individuals find their voices celebrated and their stories woven into the tapestry of Jewish life.

In celebration of the ancient festival of Simchat Bait Hashoevah, 13th Tribe floated a Sukkah on a pirate ship in the Sausalito Bay.

Why "13th Tribe"?

The traditional narrative of the Jewish people traces back to Jacob's twelve sons, forming the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, however, was excluded and not granted a formal tribe. 13th Tribe honors Dinah's legacy, creating a symbolic "13th Tribe"—a space for all those who feel drawn to Jewish culture, spirituality, and community yet remain unacknowledged by conventional institutions. We warmly invite everyone—Jews, allies, and spiritual seekers—to explore and celebrate Jewish life with us.
